Privacy Policy

The short version

Percentile has no ads or advertising trackers, and no account is required. Saved answers, results, progress, plans, and reports stay on the device for resume, result calculation, and history. Percentile also operates an active Scoring & Comparison Service. Setup requires age in whole years and lets you provide your current country or skip it. Adults tap one Accept and continue button to use the service. Adult activity then becomes Linked Score Data used only to calculate and improve Percentile scores, comparison editions, the Live Cognitive Profile, and service integrity and security. People under 18 do not receive a server profile; one sealed administration, including a completed, timed-out, abandoned, interrupted, or crash-ended administration, may instead create an Unlinked Calibration Submission with tightly limited fields. Friend matches use Apple Game Center, and Apple handles optional purchases through the App Store.

On-device product storage

The app stores baseline and full-test progress, answer counts, calculated results, practice answers, plans, saved puzzles, completed room summaries, and settings on your device. This is required to resume activities, calculate and reopen results, and maintain progress. Room summaries may include Game Center participant identifiers, display names, and aggregate results. An incoming Daily Duel link stores its sender name, correctness mask, and per-question times locally for up to seven days so the app can show the comparison.

Age, optional country, and acceptance

Setup requires age in whole years, not a birth date. Age determines whether Percentile may create a linked adult service record and which result policy applies. Current country of residence is optional and can be skipped. Percentile does not ask for education, sex, gender, race or ethnicity, English proficiency, or accessibility information.

If you are 18 or older, the data-and-results screen links to this policy and the Terms of Use. Tapping Accept and continue accepts those terms and starts the Scoring & Comparison Service prospectively. There is no additional registration or secondary data-use toggle. Activity completed before acceptance is not backfilled. Country helps Percentile build and evaluate country-relevant Calibration Editions; it does not add or subtract points from a result.

Adult Linked Score Data

For an adult, Percentile creates a random service identifier. Data associated with that identifier is pseudonymous, but it remains linked and is not anonymous. Linked Score Data may cover assessments, reasoning tests, practice, daily challenges, Memory, Focus, and only the local player's activity in multiplayer, including completed, timed-out, and abandoned sessions.

Linked Score Data may include the random service identifier and acceptance document/version; required age and optional country; activity type, mode, category, form and manifest; session start, end, completion state, and administration context; question or trial ID and revision, generated surface, generator seed and version, position, displayed option order, taxonomy, difficulty, and scoring-rule version; and the activity timeline. The timeline may include presentation and exposure, answer selections, changes and clears, hints, flags, skips, passes, submission, feedback, pauses, resumes, backgrounding, timeout, and abandonment. It may also include typed final responses, Memory sequences, Focus targets and reactions, first and final latencies, accuracy, omissions, result counts, Live Cognitive Profile evidence, app version and build, OS major version, coarse device class, locale, language, edition membership and inclusion decisions, and scoring provenance.

For multiplayer, the service accepts only the local player's own questions, answers, and timing. Opponent names, identifiers, room codes, answers, scores, and timing are forbidden.

Unlinked Calibration Submissions for people under 18

Percentile asks for age in whole years and accepts ages 5 through 100; the under-18 route described here applies to ages 5 through 17.

Percentile does not create a persistent service identifier, cross-session record, server profile, or linked score artifact for a person under 18. After one sealed administration, including a partial terminal outcome, the app may send one Unlinked Calibration Submission containing only age in whole years, optional current country, form and item IDs, final responses, and bucketed timing and count summaries.

The minor route does not send or retain a random participant identifier, device or App Attest identifier, consent history, exact wall-clock timestamps, app or device context, a full event timeline, or any cross-session linkage. Source IP is discarded at intake and is not retained in application records or logs. The raw unlinked submission expires within 90 days after receipt. After that, only non-identifying aggregate Calibration Edition parameters and provenance may remain. Because no lookup key exists, Percentile cannot later find, access, correct, or delete a particular accepted minor submission by person. A person under 18 receives only local correctness and category progress, not a server profile, modelled Reasoning Index, percentile, or Experimental IQ Estimate.

Why the Scoring & Comparison Service uses data

Adult Linked Score Data and minor Unlinked Calibration Submissions are used only for Percentile's scoring and comparison functions: calculating requested results; maintaining adult score history and the Live Cognitive Profile; calibrating item behavior and comparison distributions; producing and evaluating versioned Calibration Editions when sufficient data is available and after review; detecting corrupted, duplicated, forged, or automated activity; and maintaining reliability, security, and service performance.

Percentile does not use this data for advertising, ad measurement, tracking, audience creation, data-broker products, commercial data licensing, or training an unrelated or generalized model. Percentile does not sell or license raw responses, individual profiles, aggregate response datasets, Calibration Editions, or generalized model outputs to third parties. It is not used for decisions about employment, insurance, credit, education admission, health, or other eligibility. A materially new purpose requires an updated disclosure and, where applicable, a new acceptance before it begins.

Data we exclude

The Scoring & Comparison Service does not collect a name, email address, full birth date, Apple Account, Game Center identity, advertising identifier, stable hardware serial, contacts, precise location, photos, audio, payment information, or free-form text. It excludes general navigation analytics, arbitrary taps, touch coordinates, keystrokes, purchases, notifications, clipboard data, and screen recordings.

To protect the adult service from forged or automated submissions, Percentile may use Apple's App Attest service. The linked adult security record can include an app-specific per-install App Attest key identifier, public key, Apple attestation receipt, environment, and assertion counter. It is used only for App Functionality, integrity, and security—not for advertising, cross-app tracking, or profiling—and is deleted with the adult record. It is never included in the minor route.

Versioned Calibration Editions

The service creates and releases dated, versioned Calibration Editions when sufficient data is available and after review. Each edition records its eligible inputs, inclusion rules, parameters, quality checks, and provenance. A frozen edition is not silently rewritten. A result identifies the edition used, and an older result retains that edition; a later administration may use a later edition.

Routine service data can improve Percentile's comparison and scoring calibration, but it does not by itself create a representative population norm or a validated intelligence test. Editions affected by a later adult deletion are marked for review, and the deleted record is excluded from future editions.

Current results and the disabled Experimental IQ feature

The current app may show a modelled Reasoning Index with a range and a Live Cognitive Profile. These are self-assessment results, not IQ scores, standardized population percentiles, clinical measures, diagnoses, or credentials. They must not be used for school, work, employment, insurance, credit, health, legal, or other high-stakes decisions.

The Experimental IQ Estimate is disabled and unavailable in this release. Its qualifying assessment is not sealed for release and no published qualifying norm edition is active. If a future reviewed release enables it, its policy, evidence, eligibility, uncertainty, and App Store disclosures will be published before use. Any such result would remain explicitly experimental, non-clinical, unverified, and not validated unless and until Percentile can truthfully publish evidence otherwise.

Apple Game Center and purchases

If you choose a friend match, Apple Game Center handles sign-in, invitations, matchmaking, participant names, and real-time room messages under Apple's privacy policy and your Game Center settings. While authenticated, Percentile submits a derived Daily Duel accuracy-and-speed score and a weekly room-win total to Apple's leaderboards. The Scoring & Comparison Service does not receive Game Center identities or opponent activity.

Apple processes payment information, purchase approval, renewal, cancellation, refunds, and subscription management for optional App Store purchases. Percentile checks Apple's verified StoreKit entitlement on your device and does not receive payment details.

App Privacy disclosure

For App Store privacy reporting, Percentile conservatively discloses the categories that can be linked on the adult route: Gameplay Content, Product Interaction, User ID, Other Data Types, optional Coarse Location, and a security Device ID. They are used for App Functionality and Analytics; the security Device ID is used for App Functionality only. Percentile does not use any data for tracking.

The minor route is technically unlinked, but some of its fields overlap with categories collected as Linked Score Data from adults. Apple requires one app-level disclosure that covers every route, so those overlapping categories are reported conservatively as linked. This policy explains the narrower unlinked minor handling.

Deleting adult data and retention

You can edit or clear local profile information and remove saved items where the app provides a delete control. For an adult, Delete Score Data in Settings → Score Data & Privacy stops new linked uploads, clears pending payloads, revokes the service credential, and requests deletion of linked age and country, activity, events, outcomes, Live Cognitive Profile, score artifacts, Calibration Edition or model-run membership, and related integrity records. The app reports if the server request must be retried. Deleting the app alone removes local storage but cannot send this server request, so use the in-app deletion control first.

After server deletion, only an unlinkable completion receipt and a minimal restore-suppression tombstone with no cognitive activity remain. Encrypted backups rotate within 30 days, and the tombstone prevents a deleted record from returning to production after a restore. Frozen non-identifying aggregate Calibration Edition parameters may remain because they cannot expose or reconstruct one person's record; the edition is marked affected and reviewed, and the deleted record is excluded from future editions. Raw minor submissions follow the separate 90-day limit above and cannot be located by person after acceptance.

Sharing

If you choose to share a result, the content is generated on your device and sent through the iOS share sheet to a destination you pick. A Daily Duel link contains the name you chose, which questions you got right, and your per-question times. In an HTTPS link that payload is placed after the # as a URL fragment, which browsers do not send to Percentile's web host. The destination or messaging service may process the link under its own terms.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to a data-protection or consumer-protection authority. Adult service data is processed on developer-operated infrastructure in the United States (US East). Required transfer protections will be used before collection in a region where law requires them. To exercise a right, use the in-app controls or contact us. A request cannot identify an Unlinked Calibration Submission because it was intentionally accepted without a lookup key.

Changes

We will update this policy and the App Store privacy answers before changing a collected-data category or use. A materially new purpose, recipient, tracking use, or commercial data use will not be applied to existing Linked Score Data without a new disclosure and any acceptance required by law.
